Project Description:
Bond funding being approved means we can start 11 top-priority sidewalk projects, adding about 12.4 miles of new sidewalks in 25 locations. These projects are in areas with a lot of pedestrian traffic and safety issues, as identified in our 2017 Bike+Walk Plan. By constructing these new sidewalks, we’ll be another step closer in achieving our Vision Zero Durham goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries.
Bond Funding: $60,000,000
The total project cost for the 12.4 miles of sidewalk improvements is $113 million. The $60 million bond is needed to supplement $38.6 million in federal funding and $14.4 million in existing local funding for these projects.
Project Timeline:
Construction on the first sidewalk project will likely begin in spring 2025.
